    History overview
The name Artiglio evokes the Viareggio divers and their enterprises...

...they were simple, modest people who, as somebody has written, through their deeds rendered boldness, work, genius, poetry eternal.

With the creation of this Award the Viareggio Versilia Rotary Club, intends to remember them, while looking to the future.
YEAR 1928

The little Italian steamer Artiglio, (148 ft. long, 284 tons), approached the coast of Bretagne carrying on board the best divers of the time, capable of working at depths over 100 meters. They spent two years in these waters, with the firm intent to recover the precious cargo of the Egypt. The wreck was eventually located on August 29, 1930. L'Artiglio
