| The Atlantic Ocean facing the coast of Bretagne was the stage of the enterprise of the Artiglio with its divers. In autumn 1925 the French Company "Union d’Enterprises Sous-Marines" stipulated a contract with the Swedish Company "Salvage Association" for recovery of gold in the sunken liner Egypt. During the summer of 1926
German divers from two French ships, "Pelican" and “Iroise", based in Brest, tried to locate, unsuccessfully, the sunken ship.
Today’s interest of France for the Artiglio is demonstrated by the presence of a museum dedicated to the ship in the city of Quiberon (Bretagne), by the publication, in 1925, of the book "L'or et la griffe” by C. Rabault, and by a recent Anglo-French co-production of a movie dedicated to the Artiglio. |
